KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival is the first and only LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) film festival in India to be held in a mainstream theater, and the first LGBTQ film festival in India to receive clearance from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Over the previous 6 editions, from 2010 to 2015, the festival has grown from strength to strength, attracting close to 8500 footfalls over the 4 1/2 days of the festival at two/three venues. The festival, every year, has screened from 110 films to 180 films that include shorts, documentaries, features - all centered around LGBTQ themes.

KASHISH is now considered one of Mumbai's prominent cultural event and is the biggest LGBTQ film festival in South Asia. KASHISH was voted as one of the top 5 coolest LGBTQ film festivals in the world by a worldwide poll conducted by MovieMaker Magazine in 2013.

KASHISH 2016 Festival Theme:

7 Shades of Love

The 7th edition of KASHISH will sing paeans to the "7 Shades of Love". Love in all its forms has been celebrated as the highest form of human emotions since the beginning of civilization - romantic love or Eros, friendship or the love between friends, the love between a parent and a child, the first stirrings of love between young lovers to the enduring love of committed partners, the love for humanity and the love and acceptance of one's true self. The 2016 festival theme embodies this spirit. It underlines that at the core of human relationships is the capacity to love each other and offer respect so that each person can live with equality and dignity.

Note: This is only the overall festival theme and all films need not coincide with the theme. The festival programs a broad range of films with diverse LGBTQ themes.

Volunteering With Kashish

KASHISH- Mumbai International Queer Film Festival being held between April 22nd to April 25th, 2010 in Mumbai promises to be four days of non-stop queer celebration across many platforms of artistic expressions.

Apart from over 80 Indian and International films, the festival has a range of allied activities - exhibitions, book launches, Q&A with filmmakers, panel discussions and of course parties! The festival expects to draw a huge audience from queer as well as non-queer community during its events spread across multiple venues in Mumbai.

We are looking for volunteers to work both before and during the festival. Volunteering for KASHISH can be a great opportunity to meet & interact with people and get involved in something momentous!

Volunteers are very much the face of the festival. They meet and greet audiences and guests, they assist by - answering questions, helping to run venues, acting as interpreters, distributing publicity materials, working at the festival office, writing for festival newsletter, and being part of the festival documentation team.
